First Father’s Day….

June 26th, 2009

Our good friend Lara, Cameo Event, was planning her husband’s birthday party which was to be a murder mystery…she still went ahead with that idea.  The cake was going to be “light/handyman” related because John runs all the sound, lighting, etc at the Center for the Performing Arts.

Just before his birthday, she had some “news” and since John has been really looking forward to that moment, we went with a Father’s Day/birthday.  Notice the little lightbulb he’s holding and the stagelights around the cake!  Isn’t he adorable?

Barn reception

May 27th, 2009

This family didn’t need any Sweet Sensations cake to sweeten them….they were already the sweetest!!! Dad called first thing after the wedding to thank us for a beautiful and delicious cake. Kind of made it extra special not leaving it up to the gals.
Mr. Thain graciously sent us a ton of photos we’d like to share with you. It was such a fun theme and done to perfection!

Introducing the new Mr & Mrs Zane Ardis!

Waffle House

May 7th, 2009

This story is too good not to share!  A bride called, having received a referral from Charm City Cakes, (thanks Mary Alice!) to do her wedding cake.  She wanted the cake to look just like the Waffle House where she and her fiance met.

The kicker is her ex-husband was in the back of police car of the future husband!!

So, here is an edible version of his squad car along with the Waffle House.

Kaylee and her family are joining the ranks of families who have our cakes, annually, for all their birthdays!!  They really wanted something extra special for her birthday in celebration of her design major.  The dress on the mannequin is part of one she designed that is going to be used in a Disney production!!!

Everything on the cake is edible…made in the Sweet Sensations shoppe!!

Incredible classes!!

April 1st, 2009

One of my favorite places on the planet is the International School of Sugar Art.  Nicholas Lodge is the best instructor to be found anywhere and there is a stack of certificates from the fantastic classes, I’ve had the honor of attending, in the shoppe.

When I heard Mike McCarey of Mike’s Amazing Cakes, my favorite 3D cake artist, was going to be at ISAC I only hesitated a moment….he won’t be Nick, but I love his work.  Was so not disappointed!!!  The class was about modeling chocolate….this is the dinosaur we made (we named him Michael after Mike’s fun assistant).

Then it was off to Savannah to Minette Rushing’s Custom Cakes for three days of master sugarpaste flower class with Ron Ben-Israel!

Fun filled days learning from Ron and teaching him the art of “bless her heart!”.

Isn’t he adorable?!?!?   Kate Essenberg took these photos, thank goodness because we’re having computer issues with the camera card.

StudioWed Atlanta located in trendy Midtown West (1000 Marietta St, Suite 124, Atlanta, GA), is an exclusive collection of wedding vendors representing the finest wedding professionals that service the Atlanta area. This is a hip and revolutionary concept in local and destination weddings in Atlanta: a stylish and sophisticated planning studio where the area’s best vendors come to you. Meet with a photographer over coffee in the morning and enjoy a glass of wine as you chat with a florist in the afternoon. Best of all, there’s no cost to you to use StudioWed’s services, so you can feel free to spend an entire day — or as many as you need — planning your big day.

“It is my goal with the studio to streamline the wedding planning process and be a resource for engaged couples. I find that brides are quickly overwhelmed with the number of vendors in the marketplace and the time it takes to drive all over the city to meet with vendors. StudioWedoffers couples a haven to find quality vendors and resources for planning their wedding..”
